JBSA Legal Services
The Judge Advocate provides on-time and on-target legal services to individuals and organizations in the aras of military justice, adverse administrative actions and ethics, civil, operations, environmental, labor and contract law. The Judge Advocate provides preventive law and legal assistance.

The Legal Office provides free legal assistance on personal civil legal matters to eligible beneficiaries, including active duty or retired military members and their dependents. Examples of personal civil legal matters include: adoption, dependent care, financial responsibility, domestic relations, Service members Civil Relief Act (SCRA), veterans reemployment rights, landlord-tenant, and casualty affairs. The highest priority is given to active duty personnel who need mobilization- or deployment-related legal assistance.
Legal assistance attorneys can provide legal advice, conduct general review of documents, draft and send correspondence on the behalf of clients, and assist clients in preparing forms. Legal assistance attorneys cannot, however, represent clients in any court or administrative proceedings or draft or file legal documents with any court.
To qualify for Legal Assistance you must have a valid military identification card and fall into one of the following categories:
1. Active Duty Military Members and their dependents
2. Reserve and Guard Members who are on active duty and their dependents 3. Retired military members and their dependents. If you are a grey area retired reservist or guardsman or a dependent of one of them, you must be receiving retirement pay to be eligible for service. Please note you must have a military ID card to be eligible.
4. Other individuals in unique circumstances may be eligible if they have a valid military identification card.

Wills
Legal assistance attorneys can prepare wills and advance medical directives, including living wills and medical powers of attorney. If you are deploying, we will attempt to accommodate you outside of these hours.

Powers of Attorney and Notary Services
The Legal Office can prepare general and special powers of attorney to include advanced medical directives, medical powers of attorney and provide notary services.

Pro Se Programs
The legal office currently provides more expansive legal services, to include uncontested pro se divorce, pro se adult and child name change and Texas pro se probate. Please call you local legal office to schedule an appointment or come in during walk-in legal assistance. |

The Victim and Witness Assistance Program (VWAP), is a Commander-directed program that is supported by the Staff Judge Advocate Office. The VWAP Program provides guidance for the treatment of victims and witnesses of crime under the UCMJ. Using a multi-disciplinary approach, the Program ensures that victims and witnesses receive the information and assistance they deserve.

The Legal Office provides legal advice on a full range of disciplinary matters to the wing commander, as well as to subordinate units and partner commands under the worldwide mission. We enable commanders to uphold good order and discipline through the efficient and equitable administration of military justice, ranging from administrative actions to general courts-martial.
The Area Defense Counsel provides individual Air Force members independent legal representation. Airmen facing adverse administrative actions or who are suspected of committing an offense under the Uniform Code of Military Justice can receive confidential legal advice outside of their chain of command.

Army members can schedule an appointment by calling Trial Defense Services at (210) 295-9742.

The Legal Office operates a free tax clinic from early January to mid-April, preparing and filing federal and state tax returns for eligible persons. Assistance is provided by appointment only Monday through Friday. To schedule an appointment, please call your local legal office. To schedule an appointment at BAMC, please call (210) 916-1040.
The tax clinic is run by volunteers who receive training by IRS personnel.

-HUD-1 for homes purchased in 2011
-Real Estate Tax Receipts
-New or Used Car, Motorcycle, Motor Home, etc purchased in 2011 (Schedule A)
-Out of Pocket Medical Expenses
-Charitable Receipts
-Child Car Expense Receipts
-Education Expense Receipts
-IRA Contribution documentation
-Voided Check or other Account and Routing Number documentation
