Safety
The NHTSA Office of EMS is committed to improving the safety of EMS workers and their patients. Through a competitively awarded cooperative agreement and with support from the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) EMS for Children (EMSC) Program, NHTSA and the American College of Emergency Physicians are developing an EMS Culture of Safety Strategy.
The EMS Culture of Safety Strategy
The primary objective of the project is to identify the safety issues facing the industry, and develop a strategy for a new culture of safety within EMS. The project was initiated after a top recommendation from the National EMS Advisory Council, a group created in 2007 to provide guidance to the U.S. Department of Transportation and the NHTSA Office of EMS.
