Colonel Wilson A. Shoffner

COL Wilson A. Shoffner serves as the Deputy Commanding General (Support) for the 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss. COL Shoffner is a native of Lawton, OK and graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1988. His first assignment was with the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, TX where he served as a Fire Direction Officer, Company Fire Support Officer, Platoon Leader and Tank Battalion Fire Support Officer. In 1990, COL Shoffner deployed to Saudi Arabia as part of Operation Desert Shield and served as a Company Fire Support Officer in Iraq during Operation Desert Storm. In 1994, following the Field Artillery and Infantry Officer Advanced Courses, COL Shoffner was assigned to the 82d Airborne Division and commanded B Battery, 3-319th AFAR and HHC, 82d Airborne Division. COL Shoffner then served as Aide-de-Camp to the Commanding General, U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command in Washington, DC.

Following the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS, COL Shoffner attended the School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) where he earned a Masters degree in Military Arts and Sciences. In 2000, COL Shoffner was assigned back to the 82d Airborne Division and posted as Division AFSCOORD, Operations Officer for 1-319th AFAR and DIVARTY Operations Officer. In 2003, he deployed to Afghanistan as Chief of Plans for the 82d Airborne Division as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. From 2003 to 2005, COL Shoffner served as Deputy Chief of Plans for NATO's Allied Rapid Reaction Corps in Rheindahlen, Germany.

In 2005, COL Shoffner returned to the 82d Airborne Division and assumed command of 2-319th AFAR. In September 2005, COL Shoffner and his battalion deployed to New Orleans, LA and served as part of Joint Task Force Katrina, following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. In January 2007, COL Shoffner deployed to Baghdad, Iraq as part of the "surge" where 2-319th was employed as a maneuver task force for 14 months as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2009, COL Shoffner graduated from the Naval War College, earning a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies. From 2009 to 2011, COL Shoffner commanded the 18th Fires Brigade, 82d Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC. In 2011 he was assigned as the Army liaison to the House of Representatives and served in that capacity until 2012.
