US Consulate Basrah hosted a US Presidential Election breakfast reception (November 7, 2012)
Despite the weekday morning timeslot, somewhat unusual for a reception here in Basrah, over one hundred guests showed up, representing a range of political, economic, media, cultural, and development notables from across southern Iraq. Basrah governor Khalaf Abdul Samad was joined by a contingent of Basrah provincial council members and party functionaries, including two officials from the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI), Local Basrawi business executives and U.S. company representatives participating in a U.S. Chamber of Commerce conference running concurrently in the same hotel also attended. Particularly noteworthy was the attendance of about twenty guests from the provinces of Maysan and Dhi Qar, including politicians, jurists, directors general, and academics
