U.S. Citizen Services
- We strongly encourage all U.S. citizens in Iraq, including those working on contract for the U.S. Government, to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) at: https://travelregistration.state.gov/. By enrolling, we can more easily contact U.S. citizens in case of an emergency.
- Consulate General Basrah offers only limited emergency consular services for Americans. The full range of consular services typically provided at U.S. embassies and consulates currently is available only at Embassy Baghdad,

- Embassy Baghdad provides the full range of consular services to American and Iraqi citizens throughout the country of Iraq. These services include visa processing, passport issuance, notarials, and assistance to American citizens in emergencies. Upon request, the Embassy can provide a list of English-speaking doctors and attorneys located in Basrah.
- Embassy Baghdad also provides an emergency after-hours line for Americans: 0770 443 1286.
- Visa applicants should continue to apply in Baghdad. Consulate General Basrah will continue to coordinate with International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) candidates and key consulate contacts, but is not issuing visas at this time.
