General Information

The Information Resource Center (IRC) is the research and reference arm of the United States Embassy in Muscat, specializing in current U.S. policy, legislation, trade data, and social and cultural issues. The IRC collection comprises reference books, some twenty periodicals in hard copy, and full-text versions of more than two hundred journals and magazines. We offer up-to-date reference services, including computer databases, to meet the information needs of individuals and institutions in support of Oman's economic, social, educational and political development.

Business Hours: The Information Resource Center is open to the public by appointment only Saturday through Wednesday from 10:00a.m. -12:00p.m. and 14:00-15:00. We accept inquiries by telephone, e-mail, or fax. Please note that the embassy is closed on local and American holidays.

IRC Services

U.S. Government Publications:
The IRC can furnish information about all spheres of activity of the U.S. Government, as well as statistical reports and selected texts of regulation and laws. Its holdings include documents published by and about governing institutions such as the Congress, the offices of the President and the Executive Branch, the Supreme Court, independent agencies, state and local governments, political parties, and other organizations active in the political life of the United States.

Books and Periodicals:
The books and periodicals collection provides information about American culture, history, politics, and society. The materials cover a wide range of subjects such as economics, international relations, education, the environment, etc.

On-line Searching:
On-line searching is a new service in the IRC. Patrons can use the Internet to access all kinds of information on the World Wide Web.

Lexis Nexis:
provides online full-text legal, news and business information from over 3,200 legal and business publications.

Gale Net GaleNet:
is a one-stop shopping database for Gale Research products available on the World Wide Web. This covers the Encyclopedia of Associations; Contemporary Authors; the Research Centers Family of Directories; Directories of Publications & Broadcast Media; Gale Directory of Databases, Gale Guide to Internet Databases; the Biography & Genealogy Master Index; and Gale Business Resources.
