>>Digital Training Facilities (DTFs)

DTFs provide Soldiers with an on-base location to access web-based, job related and professional courses away from the workplace and distractions of home. DTFs include networked computers that support CD-ROM based training, Video Tele-training equipment to support room based courseware transmission from remote sites, computer servers to support the network and provide a high-speed gateway from the classroom to Army intranets and the internet. Functional capabilities include a student learning space consisting of electronic messaging and DTF scheduling and collaboration tools.

To date there are 215 Active Component and USAR DTFs at installations in the United States, Germany, Belgium, Italy, and Korea.

For a complete listing of DTFS, view the >>Map of DTF Locations.

Enterprise Management Center (EMC)

DLS manages all of the DTFs from the EMC located at Fort Eustis, VA. The EMC networks the DTFs, and provides students access to Web-based courseware. The EMC also implements applications, which enable the remote execution of account, fault, security, configuration and performance management of the DLS enterprise. DLS can release virus updates and operating system updates, carry out bandwidth analysis, and give each student individual user IDs and passwords, all from an enterprise level, which allows us to enforce standardization across the facilities and takes the burden off the installation DOIMs.

>>Army Learning Management System (ALMS)

In addition to the training at the DTFs, Army personnel can access training from anywhere they have access to a computer and the Internet with the development of the ALMS, which is currently fielded at TRADOC installations world-wide. From the office, home or DTF, Soldier's will be able to meet their distributed learning needs 24/7 and have access to: content, course catalogs and schedules, collaborative resources, and training history. The ALMS provides Army leadership at senior and unit levels, training officers and NCOs with the ability to manage their Soldier's careers from one location, saving time and money, and providing them with a powerful tool to manage their Soldiers' training more efficiently. Soldiers will also have the ability to track their own training history. The combined capabilities of DLS and the ALMS will make training more efficient, delivery more flexible, and provide Soldiers the ability to track their own training history. The ALMS has the potential to touch every Soldier and civilian in the US Army, and will be the single source for Soldiers and their leaders to see training deficiencies, and to be able to address and direct their Soldiers to take the training they need to correct those deficiencies.

>>Deployed Digital Training Campuses (DDTC)

DLS is officially moving forward with the fourth component of its acquisition strategy, DDTCs. A transportable system of twenty networked workstations, servers, simulation software, web-based training courses, collaboration, and video training capabilities connected to the world-wide-web via satellite communications. Used primarily to train Soldiers in-theatre. DDTCs will also be used to mitigate training demands and equipment shortages brought about by surge conditions on Army installations. Two DDTCs will be built for each Division in the Army (approximately twenty systems) and ten DDTCs will be built for surge support. The surge support systems will be maintained and deployed by TRADOC.
