Computing Environment Policy Memorandum dated Nov. 14, 2012
If your CompTIA certification was originally issued as good-for-life and you are in your first 3-year certification cycle (Cycle1) for continuing education, be sure you fully understand how and when your Cycle1 ends and your next certification cycle (Cycle2) begins.
When all your required CEUs are audited and your AMFs are paid in full, your Cycle1 certification training cycle ends. This date may be earlier than what you understood to be your 3-year certification cycle.
After your Cycle1 certification ends, the AMF1 of your Cycle2 must be received by CompTIA before Cycle2 continuing education is audited. Your Cycle2 education cycle will be set to a fixed 3-year cycle.
The confusion for Cycle1 is true only for those originally issued CompTIA good-for-life certifications. This message is complicated, but it is important you understand your certification agreement with CompTIA. Please contact the CompTIA auditors if you have a specific question about your continuing education.

DoD has extended the CompTIA continuing education enrollment date 31 Dec 2012.
In February (2011) the Director of the IA Workforce Improvement Program (IA WIP) provided guidance to the Components to have IA Workforce Members who held CompTIA certifications enroll in the ANSI Accredited Continuing Education program by 31 Dec 2011.
However, based DoD 8570.01-M policy as well as feedback from our Component representatives, the Director of the DoD IA WIP is modifying that initial guidance to align with CompTIA's guidance to enroll by 31 Dec 2012. This aligns to our policy to "comply" with the certification provider standards/requirements.
Outlined below are the key requirements which support the requirement to enroll in the CompTIA CE program by the end of 2012:
- All certifications listed in the 8570 were required to be ANSI accredited but were temporarily waived by policy during the start up of the program.
- Once they were ANSI accredited that became the "approved" certification.
- The initial requirement to enroll by 31 Dec 2011 was based on budgetary as well as policy considerations (DoD had the funding to support the enrollment requirements).
- However, this requirement did conflict with the CompTIA requirement to enroll by 31 Dec 2012.
- Based on the 8570 policy requirement "to meet the standards established by the certification provider", DoD is modifying the required enrollment date to align with CompTIA's requirement of 31 Dec 2012.
ATCTS has been updated the way continuing education certification enrollment is handled has changed. Please see below:
CompTIA Continuing Education enrollments now show up as renewals for Security+, Network+, and A+ certifications. They are seen on your profile page under the “Last Renewal” column header. Only those released to DWCA will show here.
For Managers:
How can I easily find out who has enrolled in CompTIA Continuing Education?
Under the management tab, open “Reports” from the list menu. Open the list report titled “Completed Certification/Training Report”. The column called “Renewal Type” will say “Cont. Ed. Enrolled” if the CompTIA certification is enrolled in continuing education.
To show only certification enrolled in Continuing Education, click “Customize This Report” at the top of page. In the Filters section, add a filter called “Cont. Ed. Enrolled” (at the very bottom of the dropdown list). Select “Yes” in the 2nd dropdown. Click the “Apply Filter” and then “Run/View Report”.
Beginning 30 Nov, ATCTS will only provide CAC authentication for login. If you do not already have your CAC enrolled with your ATCTS account, you have until 30 Nov to do so using the current process of logging in with your password and CAC. Once CAC-Only authentication is in place, you will only be able to enroll your CAC by requesting an access code be e-mailed to your AKO e-mail address.
If you are having issues getting your CAC to work, visit http://militarycac.com/ for help.

ALL IA workforce personnel must release their certifications at DMDC[link] and associate their CACs with their ATCTS accounts for the certification to show up as verified by DMDC in their ATCTS profile. DACs and military personnel's certification renewal fee / maintenance fees are paid if released through DMDC.
If you are civilian, military, or contractor performing IA duties, and you hold one of the DoD baseline certifications listed in DoD 8570.1-M, you must register with the Defense Workforce Certification Web Application (DWCA) to request release of your certification status from the certification vendor to the DoD. This is the official means of notifying DoD of your certification status. Failure to authorize release of your certification status will require you to pay your own renewal or maintenance fee for 2009 and each subsequent year if you are Army civilian or military. Once you register, any additional certifications earned from that provider will automatically be released to the DoD.
DoD workforce members who are performing Information Assurance (IA) management or technical functions and have earned any of the following certifications should access this site to authorize the release of their certification information to the DoD, even if renewal fee payment is not required. Army IA workforce personnel are still required to annotate their certification in the Army Training and Certification Tracking System (ATCTS).
If you hold one of the following DoD baseline certifications you must release your cert to DoD. Please complete this requirement by 31 December 08.
DoD baseline Certifications:
CompTIA - A+, Network+, Security+
ISC2 - CISSP, CISSP Associate, ISSMP, ISSEP, ISSAP, SSCP
ISACA - CISM. CISA
SecurityCertified.Net - SCNP, SCNA
SANS - GSEC, GSLC, GSE, GISF
To register, go to https://www.dmdc.osd.mil/appj/dwc/index.jsp
Select the provider for which you will authorize release of your certification. In order for the certification provider to find the requested certification information, the workforce member may also need to provide additional information listed on the screen required by the provider.
Select the Send button to send the information to the chosen provider.
Once the release of your information has been authorized, the date the authorization was performed will appear on the screen, along with the matching information provided.
You will need to return to the site to check on the status of your request. The current status will indicate where the authorization is in the release process:
Status | Definition |
---|---|
Pending | Waiting for the provider to process your release authorization |
Under Review | Provider has retrieved your information from the Web Site and is in the process of finding your certifications |
Valid | Provider has found your certification and has sent this information to DoD |
Unknown | Provider was unable to find your certification information using the matching criteria you provided |
The workforce member will be notified via e-mail when any certification information is released by a provider. The email will be sent to all email addresses associated with their CAC.
Please note, in addition to the above steps, the workforce member must associate their CAC with their ATCTS account for the certification to show up as verified by DMDC in their ATCTS profile.
If the workforce member chooses at some point in time to discontinue their authorization to release certification information to the DoD, they may select 'Unauthorize' and a message will be sent to the provider indicating the removal of their authorization. No further information would then be sent by the provider to the DoD.
COMPTIA Bridge Exams Update 31 Oct1.doc
This information applies to all who hold a CompTIA Security+ certification and those who are taking Security+ training working towards Security+ certification.
The A+ certification exam has been updated to the CompTIA A+ 2009 Edition. The 600 series exam will retire 28 Feb 2010, therefore you will need to complete the 600 series Skillport modules by 31 Jan 2010 in order to be eligible for an A+ voucher and/or to meet minimum training requirements. Afterwards, you will need to complete the A+ 220-701 and 220-702 Skillport modules.
There has been a change to the 'Minimum Required Training' for IA Workforce personnel in IAT I-III and IAM I positions. The IA Technical Level I course in Army eLearning was reevaluated and is no longer a required course. Personnel will no longer see this course in their Army Training and Certification Tracking System (ATCTS) profile as part of their minimum training requirement. Those who have completed the course or would like to still take it will see the completion record in the "Other/Specialized Training" table in their profile. The course will still be available through Army eLearning.
