BLACK MESA PROJECT

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT

For the proposed Black Mesa Project, the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE) in November 2006 issued a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) [ (45.9 MB)] and in November 2008 issued a Final EIS Volume I [ (46.8 MB)] and Volume II [ (12.6 MB)].

In January 2010, an administrative law judge for the appeals of OSMRE’s approval of the Peabody Western Coal Company’s permit revision application for the Black Mesa Complex decided that the Final EIS did not satisfy the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) judge’s decision  [ (1.42 MB)].
