Dress Code


Bamberg Elementary School seeks to promote and maintain an orderly and effective learning environment for students. The school dress code is mandatory. Each student is expected to wear the clothes that meet the requirements below while attending Bamberg Elementary School.  The school dress will be clean, neat, serviceable and worn properly for the general, personal health and safety of student. Students who come to school dressed inappropriately will be expected to change. Their parents will be contacted to bring appropriate clothing or use the lending locker items. School personnel will enforce the dress code and notify parents when students are not in compliance with this policy.

During cold weather, children must wear enough warm clothing, so they can remain outside for at least 25 minutes each day during recess periods.  Students go outside to recess, as long as, it is dry and above 28 degrees Fahrenheit (wind chill).

The PTA offers a variety of sweatshirts; long sleeve and short sleeve T-shirts with the school logo.  These items can be purchased for a nominal fee and are appropriate dress wear.

The dress code offers many options such as different colors and styles of shirts, blouses, etc. All children should be well groomed and are expected to wear neat, clean and clothing free from holes at all times.

Top Wear

Shirts can be short or long sleeved, pullover, button-up front or turtlenecks. They may be any color, patterned, or with stripes.  No inappropriate pictures or words.  No sleeveless shirts.

Bottom Wear

Boys: Pants and shorts of any color, to include denim jeans; need to be worn at the waist at all times. No sagging, tears, or holes. Hems should not be frayed or drag on the floor. All shorts must be longer than the child’s index finger when arm is extended along the side of the body. No inappropriate pictures or writing.

Girls: Pants, shorts, skirts, capris and shorts of any color to include denim jeans; need to be worn at the waist at all times. No sagging, tears, or holes.  All shorts must be longer than the child’s index finger when arm is extended along the side of the body. All skirts and dresses must have hems that are no higher than 2 inches above the knee. Hems should not be frayed or drag on the ground. No inappropriate pictures or writing.

Footwear

Socks or tights will be worn with shoes. Shoes must be casual or athletic. They can be any color, lace-up, velcro or buckle. Brands and logos are permitted for athletic shoes. For safety precautions, all shoes need to be closed toe and closed heel and fit properly. No platforms, open-toed, open-backed, sandals, shower shoes, “heelies” or shoes that are too big.

Outer Wear

There are not specifications for outerwear garments: coats, jackets, raincoats, ponchos.

All outerwear garments are to be worn outside only. These garments are not meant to be worn in the building. Students will be requested to remove hats, coats, jackets, hooded sweatshirts while inside the building. No inappropriate pictures or writing.

PE Day Only

On PE day, students may wear a sweat suit. No inappropriate pictures or writing
