Immigrant Visas
An Immigrant Visa allows you to travel to the United States and to become a Legal Permanent Resident (LPR) or U.S. citizen. LPR status is also commonly known as having a “green card” and it is the first step on your way to becoming a citizen of the United States.
To apply for an Immigrant Visa, you usually need a petition. Information on how to file for a petition with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is available at the USCIS website. The most common immigrant visa categories are:
Immediate Relatives of American citizens or LPRs
Special Immigrants
Family-sponsored
Employer-sponsored
