If your visa is approved:

When your visa is approved, you will need to make arrangements with the courier service located within the U.S. Consulate, to have your passport delivered to you.  This service costs US. $15.00 per passport. Do not make any travel plans until you receive your passport with the valid visa.

If your visa is refused or if your case is put on hold:

If there are any documents missing from your file or if the Consular Officer has further questions about your case, the officer will put your case on hold under Section 221(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). The consular officer will give you a list of documents and/or information required to continue with your case. If you do not return with the requested information within one year from the date of the interview, we will assume that your case has been abandoned and it will be terminated.  The Consular Officer will provide you with all the details you need to complete your application.

If you are refused under another section of the INA, you will be given both a verbal and written explanation of the reason for refusal. In some cases, depending on the type of refusal and your visa category, you may be eligible for a waiver from the Department of Homeland Security. In other cases, you will not be eligible to apply for a waiver. If a waiver is available, the Consular Officer will direct you to a USCIS officer who will give you the necessary forms and instructions. Please be aware that the final decision in all waiver applications is made by the Department of Homeland Security’s Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services in Port au Prince, not the U.S. Embassy or the Department of State.

If the Consular Officer has suggested that you undergo a DNA test with the petitioner or any other member of your family, the Officer will give you a DNA information sheet which will give you information on how to perform the test.  Please visit the AABB website for a complete list of accredited DNA laboratories in the U.S. You have one year to comply with this request for DNA.  If you do not perform the DNA test within one year, your case will be considered abandoned and will be closed.
