U.S. Government to Fund the Restoration of Gyz Gyla in Ancient Merv
On November 8 the United States Embassy and the government of Turkmenistan held a joint ceremony to announce a $595,000 grant by the United States Government. Awarded via the U.S. Department of State’s Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP), the project focuses on the restoration and conservation of the Larger and Lesser Gyz Gala monuments in Ancient Merv, Mary region. Photo Gallery: U.S. Embassy Participates in the VII International Book Fair in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan
On September 24-26, 2012 the U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Section participated in the VII Book Fair and Conference organized by the Turkmenistan State Publishing House. The U.S. Embassy booth featured books, textbooks, films and magazines from the IRC library, which is located on the 4th Floor of Ak Altyn Hotel in Ashgabat. University students, professionals, schoolchildren and the general public got acquainted with iPads loaded with iTextbooks, eBooks and over one hundred educational apps. Participants learned about the eLibraryUSA virtual library and its sign-up and access procedures along with numerous other resources and programs available through the IRC.

Photo Gallery: Social Media Night
On September 15, the U.S. Embassy in Ashgabat held a Social Media Night for roughly two dozen of the Embassy’s most active social media friends from Mail.Ru and Facebook. The Ambassador and the Public Affairs Officer, along with the Cultural Affairs Officer and representatives of the international community were invited to attend. Social media was the topic of the night, featuring discussions of its role in society and future of the online networking in Turkmenistan. In addition, the Embassy screened the Oscar-winning movie “The Social Network.” Visiting UCLA Professor Dr. John Richardson led a discussion before and after the film screening.

New Orleans Band Shamarr Allen and the Underdawgs Toured Turkmenistan
Shamarr Allen and the Underdawgs, a fusion jazz band based in New Orleans, Louisiana, toured Turkmenistan in June 2012 as part of the U.S. Department of State Arts Envoy program, which showcases contemporary American music around the world. Turkmenistan Culture Days 2011
November 28-30th marked a celebration of Turkmen culture at the Meridian International in Washington D.C. Thanks to the support of Chevron and the U.S. Department of State, a delegation of 70 citizens from Turkmenistan brought with them cultural items of significance and performed both dance and song during the 2 days they were here. The 2011 U.S. Business Exhibition in Turkmenistan
The first-ever U.S. Business Exhibition held in Turkmenistan opened at the Sergi Koshgi (Exhibition Palace) in Ashgabat on Thursday, May 19, 2011. The event ran for two days, May 19-20, 2011. U.S. a Reliable Partner as Japan Responds to Disaster
When Japan was hit by a massive earthquake and tsunami on March 11, U.S. military personnel and relief organizations immediately offered assistance. The U.S. armed forces launched Operation Tomodachi (Operation Friends), coordinating with Japanese officials to provide emergency supplies while also organizing search-and-rescue units and rendering medical aid.

Connections Between Peace Corps, Central Asia

Movie Festival Kicks-Off in Ashgabat to Mark the BHM
On February 23, 2010, a two-day movie festival, organized by the U.S. Embassy in Turkmensitan, started at Ashgabat city "Watan" Cinema and Concert Theater. Third United States-funded Border Crossing Checkpoint Opens in Turkmenistan
A delegation of representatives from the U.S. Government gathered in Turkmenabat for the official opening of a new Turkmen border crossing checkpoint at Farap. U.S. Air Forces Band “Mirage” Tours Turkmenistan with Public Concerts and Workshops
On a one week tour in Turkmenistan, the U.S. Air Force Band "Mirage" performed public concerts and workshops at performance halls, music schools, universities and military academies April 25-May 2, 2009.
