When I arrive in Korea in the summer months, how can I receive additional information about OAES?

There is a huge amount of information available in a "Smart Book" which is a compilation of everything you wanted to know about OAES. The book is available at each school, the KDSO (723-7859), and at Turumi Lodge (784-1844) on base. This book was compiled to answer this specific question.

How do I register my child in school?

arrow  The process is straightforward, but there is some paperwork that needs to be completed before your child can enroll in school. Here is a printable outline to follow. The forms you need are located here.

My child has special needs. Whom should I contact?

arrow  Here is some basic information. Contact the OAES school counselor for more information.

Are there any educational supplies or materials that my child will need to start school?

arrow  Specific information is available for each grade at OAES here.

My child has a specific health related issue. What can I expect for support?

arrow  Every school in Korea has at least one health professional on their staff. In most cases this is an RN who is well equipped to handle routine health care issues. Access to quality health care both on and off base is part of the benefits of living in a well developed country like Korea.

What immunizations are required for my children?

How will my child get to and from school?

arrow  In general, there is an extensive bus system available for students who live off base or who are not within walking distance of school. Here is some information about the bus transportation system.

It does require that parents register with the transportation office before the students will be allowed to ride the bus. There is no mandatory parental requirement for riding the busses.

How safe is my child at school?

arrow  Children are exceptionally safe in Korea. The culture itself is remarkable safe, protective even, for children. On base, there is extensive training and awareness of issues such as bullying due to a proactive stance of the District Office. Here is an example of a training given to staff and parents here at OAES.

What is GradeSpeed and the ParentConnection? How do I sign up for it?

arrow  GradeSpeed™ is a record keeping program used by Grade 4 and above teachers in DoDEA.
    ParentConnection is a parent portal for GradeSpeed™ that allows parents and sponsors to monitor the grades entered in the teacher record book via GradeSpeed™.

A parent must fill out an online application to receive authorization to view a student record. Instructions on how to do this are here, and the actual site for registration is here (click on the "Click here to sign up" link at the bottom of the Parent window).

It normally takes three to five business days after an application is submitted to receive approval.
