The Armed Services Blood Program Office (ASBPO) manages the blood program for the Department of Defense (DoD). The Armed Services Blood Program was established by Presidential Order in 1952 as a joint field operating agency. The office is subject to the authority, direction, and control of the Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) through the Assistant Secretary of Defense [Health Affairs (HA)] and under the operational control of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
