Project Development Process

These pages describe the actions required for the highway design activities. The purpose of this web page is to act as a portal for designers to access the resources required during the PS&E development process in line with the P6 work breakdown structure. The Highway Design phases are listed on the left-side menu. Select a phase and the activities for that phase will be displayed. For each activity (and if applicable, each step) the following information is provided:

  • Instructions: Gives directions to accomplish a particular activity. Examples would include the Knucklehead Guide, ADHOC Help, and some PDDM supplements.
  • Resources: Provides links to various resources that may be used in completing the activity. Examples would include forms and pre-configured spreadsheets such as the Notice to Proceed calculator and gradient check worksheet.
  • References: Includes references to background design data and knowledge used to perform highway design. Examples would include the AASHTO Green Book, PDDM, MUTCD, and the Park Road Design guide.

The older PD Process Flowchart shows a little more information regarding how the Highway Design activities fit with the Environment and R/W process. The charts are not current, but they do provide a good overall view of the larger process.
