Today, we received great news from the U.S. Air Force that they recognize the critical role Kansas plays in our national security by selecting both McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita and Forbes Airfield in Topeka as finalists for the basing of the KC-46A tanker. The selection of not just one, but both Kansas Air Force bases is a testament to the critical role our state plays in supporting our military and their partners as they carry out missions overseas and at home. Strate...gically positioned in the heart of America, the location, capacity and mission of McConnell and Forbes make both bases exceptionally equipped to provide air mobility globally at a moment’s notice. As the process unfolds, I look forward to working with the Department of Defense, the Air Force and state and local leaders to make certain Kansas is the home to the new KC-46A tanker.See More- Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting Dylan Bathurst, an impressive young man and entrepreneur from Talmage, Kansas. After attending Fort Hays State University, Dylan was hired by Zappos, an online footwear startup later acquired by Amaz...on.com. More recently, Dylan founded his own startup company called Rumgr, a new online marketplace that has attracted over $500,000 in funding.
It is my goal to promote policies that best enable people like Dylan to innovate, take risks, and create companies that bring new ideas to market while growing the economy and creating jobs for Americans. You can learn more about Dylan and Rumgr at http://www.rumgr.com/story/See More - LikesSee All

Congrats to the Wichita State, Kansas State and Kansas University basketball programs, all ranked in the AP Top 25 for the first time in nearly 50 years. Good luck as conference play gets underway.- In a few minutes I will join America’s Newsroom on the Fox News Channel to discuss the 'fiscal cliff', the debt ceiling, and the need to get serious about cutting federal spending to reduce the deficit.
- Early Tuesday morning, I voted to stop President Obama’s scheduled pay increase for members of Congress from going into effect. America faces the largest national debt in our history and trillion-dollar annual deficits. We must change the way the government operates and significantly reduce spending. The President should not be considering pay increases for Congress.
- I'll be visiting with Larry Kudlow from the Capitol on the status of fiscal cliff negotiations tonight on CNBC at 6pm CT. Please tune in.
- Today I’ve been listening to Kansans calling in to share their thoughts and opinions on the “fiscal cliff.” Whether your words are in the form of a Facebook comment, a phone call, or a letter, please know that I am listening and I appreciate messages from Kansans who wish to make their voice heard.

Today, I spoke on the Senate Floor about the need for swift, bipartisan action to prevent the country from going over the fiscal cliff. Research indicates that, in the absence of an agreement, a teacher in Kansas making $43,000 a year would... see his or her taxes would go up $3,000 a year, about $250 a month. It is time for the impasse to come to an end. I want us to reach an agreement. I want us to deal with the tax code that changes on January 1. And I want us to deal with the most significant challenge and problem our country faces: the challenge of our deficit and debt.See More- I’d like to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas. This is a good time to reflect on the true gifts in life – our family, faith and freedoms. I hope all Kansans will take a moment today to reflect on the many blessings we have as Americans. From the Moran family to your family, Merry Christmas.

The 27 member Allegro Choir of Kansas City recently stopped by the U.S. Senate during their tour of Washington, D.C. I hope this brief video of their caroling brings some holiday cheer to you and your family this Christmas Eve. Merry Christmas.- Today, thousands of people filled the Kansas Expocentre in Topeka to honor the lives of fallen Topeka officers David Gogian and Jeff Atherly. I was honored to accompany the Chief of Police as an escort moving the caskets to the visitation. I had the chance to visit with dozens of law enforcement officers, express my condolences, and thank them for their service and sacrifice. The thoughts and prayers of Kansas are with David and Jeff.

Yesterday I spoke on the Senate floor about the history of the United States Senate and how its system of debate plays an important role in requiring Senators to compromise in order to pass legislation.Jerry Moran shared a link.
This evening, I paid tribute to Coach Roger Barta on the Senate Floor. After 35 years of coaching football, the renowned coach of the Smith Center Redmen is hanging up his whistle and retiring. Coach Barta does more than just coach football... – he serves as a role model and mentor for dozens of young men. Redmen athletes are not expected to just excel on the field, but in the classroom and community as well. Congratulations Coach for your outstanding achievements over the last three decades, including winning more than 320 games and eight state championships – five of them in a row. But most importantly, thank you for your investment in the lives of the young men of Smith Center. Their lives are forever changed because of you.See MoreJerry Moran shared a link.
The chances of a white Christmas in Kansas are increasing as blizzard and winter storm warnings are now in effect for parts of Kansas. Please drive safely as you travel this holiday season.Jerry Moran shared a link.
This evening, I paid tribute to the lives of Cpl. David Gogian and Officer Jeff Atherly on the Senate floor. These two men honorably served their community by faithfully carrying out their duties. Rather than shirking from danger, police of...ficers pledge to face danger with courage, and that is what David and Jeff did. When we lose someone in a community in Kansas, it is not just a name to us. It is somebody we see at our kids’ activities at school, somebody we go to church with, somebody we know and care about. I continue to keep David and Jeff's families and friends in my thoughts and prayers.See More- ActivityJanuaryPeople Who Like This77
