U.S. import and export prices each fall 0.1% in December after larger drops in November

The price index for U.S. imports edged down 0.1 percent in December, after declining 0.8 percent the previous month. Falling fuel and nonfuel prices each contributed to the December decrease. U.S. export prices also fell 0.1 percent in December following a 0.7 percent drop in November.

Job openings unchanged at 3.7 million in November

There were 3.7 million job openings on the last business day of November, unchanged from October. The hires rate (3.2 percent) and the separations rate (3.1 percent) also were unchanged in November.

LATEST PRODUCTS FROM THE REGIONAL OFFICES:

New England:

Employer compensation costs for New England workers in September 2012 averaged $33.72/hour

New York-New Jersey:

Employment in New York area up 0.8 percent, smallest rate since May 2011

Mid-Atlantic:

On average, Baltimore households spent $55,363 in 2010-11, 13% higher than U.S. average

Southeast:

Atlanta area employment up 33,900, or 1.5%, since November 2011

Midwest:

Chicago area prices decreased 0.4% in November and were 1.5% higher over the year

Southwest:

Dallas area consumer prices fall 0.5% in October and November; rise 1.7% over the year

Mountain-Plains:

Kansas City metro employment up 2,400, Nov 2011 to Nov 2012; jobs added in both MO & KS

West:

Los Angeles area prices declined 1.0% in November; up 2.1% over the year
