The national unemployment rate is higher today than when President Obama took office, even though he’s added over $5 trillion to the national debt. Whether it’s the ‘stimulus,’ the health care reform law, or the threat of a record tax increase, the President’s Big Government policies have clearly failed. We need a new approach – one that unleashes the power of free enterprise and tames the growth of government.- We'll be covering a lot of ground today - a "Coffee with Cathy" in Colfax, business roundtables in Pullman and Clarkston, a tour of Schweitzer Engineering's new manufacturing facility, and meetings with local officials on how we can create jobs. If there's one thing Congress can do to create jobs, what would it be?
- Looking forward to a busy day in Eastern Washington, including touring Valley Hospital and meeting with Avista employees.

Congratulations to Justin Peterson of Chewelah, who won the Safeco Insurance Community Hero award and $10,000 for raising money for the Honor Flight Network, which flies America's veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials. Congrats again, Justin!- My thoughts and prayers are with those who have been hit by Hurricane Sandy. To all my friends on the East Coast, please stay safe!
- I hope you'll join me in celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) by recognizing the contribution of people with disabilities to the workforce.

I was proud to deliver the keynote speech at the Society of American Foresters National Convention in Spokane today. I talked about my work to improve federal land management policies and issues specific to the Colville National Forest. I...t is no coincidence that many of the counties with the highest unemployment rates in America are those which are surrounded by federal forests. It is time to put our people back to work, which in this case means putting our land back to work.See MoreCathy McMorris Rodgers shared a link.
I'm so proud that Spokane has taken the lead to "THINK PINK!" in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer has touched all of our lives in some way -- and I am proud that Eastern Washington is doing so much to spread awareness. "Think pink" this October! http://www.spokesman.com/blogs/sirens/2012/oct/04/going-pink/Cathy McMorris Rodgers shared a link.

In case you missed it, please check out the latest Human Events article about my work to bring transparency and accountability to U.S. funding to the IMF for the European bailouts..."I am concerned by Madame LaGarde’s suggestion that we sho...uld renegotiate the bailout agreements that Greece and other European countries voluntarily agreed to, accepting literally hundreds of billions of bailout dollars from other countries, including the United States."See MoreCathy McMorris Rodgers shared a link.
This week is “National Forest Products Week." Too bad the policies advanced by this Administration have resulted in less productive forests, less logging, and made the economic recovery in our timber communities worse.- ActivityNovemberPeople Who Like This6
