UNTHSC Facts at a Glance

The UNT Health Science Center, where the best begins for health, is one of the nation's distinguished graduate academic centers, dedicated to education, research, patient care and service to our community.

Opened in 1970 as the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (TCOM), the campus has grown to also comprise the Graduate School of Biomedical
Sciences
, School of Public Health, School of Health Professions, which includes the Physician Assistant Studies and Physical Therapy programs,  and the UNT System College of Pharmacy, which opens in 2013.  Faculty provide care to our community through UNT Health, one of the largest multi-specialty group practices in Tarrant County.

Located on 33 acres in the heart of Fort Worth's Cultural District, our schools offers these degrees:

  • Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
  • Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Sciences
  • Doctor of Public Health
  • Doctor of Philosophy in Public Health
  • Doctor of Physical Therapy
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (pending)
  • Master of Physician Assistant Studies
  • Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences
  • Master of Public Health
  • Master of Health Administration

We are committed to providing Texas and the nation with the highest qualified health professionals. Every year since 2003, U.S. News and World Report has named the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine among the top 50 medical schools in the U.S. for primary care. And perhaps most important, TCOM students top their peers nationally in osteopathic medical board passing rates and licensing scores.

Our School of Public Health is one of 50 accredited schools of public health in North America, and one of only three in Texas.

Our Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences ranks among the top schools in National Institutes of Health funding per total basic science faculty. Our research areas of strength include aging and Alzheimer's disease, primary care and prevention, and applied genetics.

The campus is home to the national Osteopathic Research Center and the Texas Prevention Institute. Our Center for Human Identification is the only academic center-based DNA laboratory qualified to work with the FBI.

In the community, we co-founded and continue to support the Cowtown Marathon and Hispanic Wellness Fair. We also work with more than 10 school outreach programs to extend the knowledge of health and healing beyond our campus.
