Professor of Music Composition Receives Top Ranking Award
Jon Christopher Nelson, professor of composition studies and the associate dean of operations for the College of Music at UNT, was awarded the International Computer Music Association's 2012 America's Region Award at the International Computer Music Conference in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Winspear Gift Establishes UNT Opera Chair
A $1.5 million gift from the estate of the late philanthropist and arts patron Bill Winspear has established the endowed Margot and Bill Winspear Chair in Opera Studies at the University of North Texas College of Music. Paula Homer, director of opera who joined the UNT faculty in 1992, has been selected as the first person to hold the chair, effective immediately.
2012 DownBeat Magazine UNT Student Music Award Winners
DownBeat Magazine has announced the 2012 DownBeat Magazine Student Music Award winners, and the UNT Division of Jazz Studies had the highest number of student winners of any music program in the country.
