The research pane makes it easy to find and add content while you’re working in Docs, Slides and Drawings. In addition to using it to search the web, now you can also find and insert your stuff from Google Drive, Picasa and Google+. That means you can spruce up your slide with a chart from another presentation, reference that cool infographic your co-worker posted to Google+ or add the perfect photo to your document from a Picasa album.

When are you going to add something like this to Gmail???? This would be a much better idea than the new compose window squashed in the bottom corner of the screen.

It wasn't just Americans following the election last night. In Berlin, Germany, last night, more than 2000 people from politics, media and business convened to follow the action and debate the election live. As part of the event, we teamed up with German public broadcaster ZDF and the American Academy in Berlin to host two live “Transatlantic Election Hangouts” on Google+, featuring Bundestag President Norbert Lammert, Die Zeit editor Josef Joffe, former German Ambassador to the U.S. Wolfgang Ischinger and President of the Brookings Institution, Strobe Talbott discussing the results of the race. Read more on the Europe blog: http://goo.gl/USgtn or watch one of the Hangouts below (in German):

If you're in the U.S., today you'll notice some changes to the search results page on your desktop. It's now cleaner and simpler—more consistent with the tablet and mobile design. There's a greater focus on the answers you’re looking for, whether from web results or from a feature like the Knowledge Graph. Read more on the blog: http://goo.gl/tHu38 and leave us feedback in the comments below.

For the most part it's good, but where is the specific image size search? That was really useful to me.

In addition to the voter info tool we've shared with you, check out the Trends tab on our Politics & Elections website: http://goo.gl/gO9U3. Here, you can compare search trends graphs from Google presidential candidates for the whole country or a specific state. Alternatively, you can view the data as a heat map for the United States. This information comes from Google Trends (google.com/trends), a tool that shows you search volumes for one or many keywords and allows you to compare them for specific time ranges and locations. Try using Google Trends to compare other election-related search terms, like Paul Ryan and Joe Biden, liberal and conservative, or donkey and elephant. You can also get trends on our +Google Politics & Elections page.

From Sunday in Russia, a topsy-turvy doodle in honor of children's poet Samuil Marshak. The doodle shows the hero of one of Marshak's best-known poems, "Вот какой рассеянный" ("The Absentminded Fellow").
