  4. October’s jobs report shows that we are on the right track. President Obama and congressional Democrats have enacted policies that have grown our economy by 5 million jobs over the past 4 years, with 171,000 new jobs added this past month. There's more work to be done, though, so I urge my Republican colleagues to work across the aisle in the coming weeks in order to pass legislation that will keep the number of new jobs growing.

  6. The unveiling of the Henry Ford Community College Science Center is an accomplishment all of Southeast Michigan should be excited about and proud of. This incredible center will serve not only as an educational resource, but facilitate groundbreaking discoveries in the science and technology fields.

  7. Another very important anniversary this week! Today, Keep Michigan Beautiful, Inc. celebrated its 50th, promoting restoration projects and awards programs for over a half century. I had a great time speaking to friends and members of this wonderful organization at their Annual Conference in Detroit.
  8. This morning I honored my very dear friend, A. Alfred Taubman, with the Detroit Goodfellows Edward H. McNamara Goodfellow of the Year Award. I was more than happy to talk with Detroit’s Channel 4 News about a man who I consider to be an exceptional philanthropist for the State of Michigan.

  9. It gave me great pride to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Clean Water Act with friends in Southeast Michigan. Our state is truly blessed to have national treasures like the Great Lakes to protect and keep healthy for future generations.

  10. I urge my colleagues to join me in asking tough questions to help get to the bottom of FDA’s investigation into New England Compounding Center (NECC). We must take Congressional action in order to protect the health of those in Michigan and of those across the country.
  11. 40 years ago I was the architect of the Clean Water Act. This groundbreaking legislation was integral in preserving our most precious natural resource. Tomorrow, I’ll join representatives from the International Joint Commission, Huron River Watershed Council, RiverUp!, and Ducks Unlimited in a 40th anniversary celebration dedicated to keeping our water supply healthy for future generations.
  12. More great news from GM: The company is investing another $35 million in its Hamtramck assembly plant to make an extended-range electric Cadillac ELR! I’m especially proud that the batteries for the ELR will be made at the Brownstown Battery Assembly plant in my district!
  13. I am very excited to announce that Debbie and I will be serving as Grand Marshals for the 86th Annual America’s Thanksgiving Day Parade along Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit. I could not be more proud, or thankful, to spend this holiday celebrating our community, our city, and our country.
  14. Health officials at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are now reporting more people may be at risk of fungal infection, including patients who have had eye operations or open-heart surgery. As I stated last week, this outbreak is unacceptable and must be contained. I intend to submit a second letter to the FDA on these recent discoveries and will keep you updated as this investigation moves forward.
  15. I think we can all agree that getting the right Medicare assistance is easier said than done. Fortunately, there is the Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program that provides free counseling to beneficiaries in Southeast Michigan through the Area Agencies on Aging. From Dearborn to Monroe, find the area agency near you who is offering one-on-one counseling through early December.
  16. Debbie and I enjoyed discussing the importance of early childhood education with our friends in Ypsilanti today at the Washtenaw Success by 6 Great Start Collaborative Annual Legislative Breakfast.
