Afterschool Lounge

Need a place to sit and chat with friends, play games, or just chill? Come to the Afterschool Lounge on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and use the library's large conference room as a group study room, game space, lounge and snack area. Board and card games are available. Food and drinks are welcome. Crafts, trivia tournaments, video games, and other activities will be available on a rotating basis. Ages 11-19.

Tenleytown Memoir & Essay Writing Club

ESL Conversation Circle

Practice your conversational skills with the help of volunteers from the Washington English Center. Please note that the Conversational Circle is designed for people who already have some knowledge of spoken English. Each session is ninety minutes long and is seated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Family Story Time

Story time fun for the entire family, this 30-40 minute story time is packed full of books and activities designed to be enjoyed by all ages. Promoting language and literacy skills, these story times are a great way to further your child’s lifelong love of reading and learning. Children and their caregivers are encouraged to actively engage and participate with the stories and activities during the program.

Toddler Story Time

Get up and get moving at our Toddler Story Time. This 20-30 minute program is full of books, songs and fun activities that are designed to help develop your child’s language skills. Children ages 12-36 months and their caregivers are encouraged to engage with the stories and activities and participate in the program along with the children. Tickets are required to attend this program. They are available at the Children’s Desk 60 minutes before the start of the story time on a first-come, first-served basis.

Job Seekers Walk-In Help

Starting Sept. 6, we are changing our offerings for TODDLER (ages 1-3) story times and Tots and Toys Playdate is moving to a new day. The following are when these popular programs will be held. Tuesdays: Toddler Story Time (ages 1-3) at 11:00 a.m. Wednesdays: Toddler Story Time (ages 1-3) at 11:30 a.m. Toys and Tots Playdate will be moving to Fridays at 11:00 a.m. Our complete fall schedule is attached.

They’ve swum through my imagination since I was a kid, coming to the surface (pun slightly intended) every time I stand on the beach, watching waves crash and hoping to spot a long, finned tail. Or even when I’m at the pool, and the trick of the light glinting off the too-blue waters maybe tricks me into seeing something I wish was there.

Gather ‘round everyone! It’s story time. Last month, I was invited to a local school’s “Read Across America” event. The school librarian arranged for every grade to have a book read to them by special guest reader (one being yours truly!).

Art Exhibition: Animal Portraits

This May, Tenley-Friendship Library is hosting an exhibition called "Animal Portraits." These paintings were created by 7th-grade art students at Sheridan School and depict animals available for adoption at Washington Animal Rescue League. Please stop by the library this month to check out the full exhibit and admire the work of these talented young artists!

Tenley-Friendship Library is thrilled to announce a new monthly program: Game On! All ages are welcome to come and play a bevy of fun board games and video games on our Wii U one Saturday each month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. So stop on by for Game On! We kicked off the new program on Saturday, April 16.

Tenley Readers Unite! (TRU Crew)

Monthly book club for kids

We've started a book club just for kids. If you're a kid between 8 and 12 years old who loves to read and get a little deeper into your favorite books, then TRU Crew is for you! At our monthly meetings, we discuss our book choice, eat snacks (in the library!), and vote on the next month's read. Meetings are usually the last Saturday of the month at 2:30 p.m. in the Children's Room. Upcoming meetings are March 26, April 23, and May 21.
