In 2005, Terry A. Greene began in her “second career” with DoDEA where she was appointed as Principal of Incirlik Unit School, the “Jewel of the Med”, in Incirlik, Turkey. She moved to Turkey from the Korea District where she was Chief of Staff and Education as well as an Instructional Systems Specialist in Assessment, Continuous School Improvement, and K-12 Literacy.
Dr. Greene came back to DoDEA after working with DoDDS-Pacific as a consultant to the Pacific Literacy project after she realized how much she missed living and working overseas.
Her original DoDEA career began in 1978 in Neu Ulm, Germany where she taught kindergarten and first grade for 2 years before moving to Osan, Korea. She returned to Nurenberg, Germany where she taught Kindergarten before moving on to Argentia, Newfoundland for a year of teaching reading improvement before moving on to Subic Bay in the Philippines. After 3 years there, she was promoted to the assistant principal of Yokota East Elementary School at Yokota AFB, Japan and then moved to the Pacific Regional office where she was the first Early Childhood Coordinator in DoDEA and also worked with Accreditation and school improvement.
In 1993, she took a year of leave without pay to begin her doctoral coursework at the University of Arizona at Tucson. She finished her Doctorate of Philosophy in 1994 when she graduated with a major in Language, Literacy, and Culture with a minor in Teaching and Teacher Education. She gained her Arizona Superintendent’s Certification as well.
Working as the Deputy Director of Curriculum, Assessment, and Instruction for DoDDS-E is a dream come true for Dr Greene. Her passion is teaching and learning in working with teachers in professional development. She is honored to be working with the educators and administrators in Europe and looks forward to continued collaboration in building a strong culture of educational excellence.
Dr Greene was an Air Force “brat” and attended DoDDS schools at Evreux-Fauville, France and at Hahn Air Base, Germany. Traveling and shopping are also among her passions.
