Dr. Jielu Zhao

Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education

As Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education at DLIFLC, Dr. Jielu Zhao, serves as the Chief Instructional Officer for eight language schools and the Emerging Languages Task Force. Dr. Zhao is responsible for planning, organizing, and operating all the programs of the Undergraduate Education Directorate to provide foreign language education and training for DoD personnel.

Over the past 25 years, Dr. Zhao has been extensively involved in the field of foreign language education, research, and administration in both American and Chinese higher education institutions. He has published dozens of articles and authored four books. He taught at the Southwest China University, the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and DLIFLC. Dr. Zhao received a PhD in Higher Education Administration from College of Education, Virginia Tech, and an M.A. in English Language and Literature from the Southwest China Normal University.

Since joining DLIFLC in 1995, Dr. Zhao has assumed positions at various levels in different language schools. Before he became the associate provost for Undergraduate Education, Dr. Zhao held positions as professor of Chinese, curriculum development specialist, oral proficiency interview tester, test reviewer, department chairperson, president of the Academic Council, school dean, and Dean’s Council chairperson.
