ISAF Joint Command morning operational update, Oct. 17

KABUL, Afghanistan (Oct. 17, 2012) — An Afghan-led security force, supported by coalition troops, arrested a Taliban senior leader in Kandahar province today.
 
The detained Taliban senior leader controlled Taliban assassination attempts, improvised explosive device operations, and suicide attacks throughout Kandahar district.
 
The security force also detained a number of suspected insurgents and seized multiple IED-making materials as a result of the operation.

South
 
Afghan and coalition forces today confirmed the death of Taliban leader Qader during a security operation in Kandahar province Saturday. Qader was responsible for the movement of weapons and ammunition throughout the province.
 
Afghan Special Police enabled by coalition forces recovered a number of weapons, IED components and narcotics in Uruzgan province yesterday. The find included 15 rocket propelled grenade warheads and 300 kilograms (660 pounds) of hashish.

Afghan and coalition forces conducted a precision airstrike to kill two insurgents who were observed burying an IED in Logar province Tuesday.
 
Afghan and coalition forces killed five insurgents observed engaging in nefarious activity during an operation in Nangarhar province Tuesday.
