Thomas J. Seelig

Colonel Thomas J. “Simon” Seelig was commissioned into the Regular Army as a ROTC Distinguished Military Graduate from Lock Haven University, Pennsylvania, in 1988. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management, with a concentration in Economics and Finance. Colonel Seelig also earned a Masters Degree in Latin American Studies from the University of California, San Diego, in 1999.

Colonel Seelig has been a lifelong Finance Corps Officer except for a three year period, 1998-2000, in which he served as a Latin America Foreign Area Officer (FAO) trainee. His assignments include Special Funding Officer, 470th Military Intelligence BDE, Panama; Disbursing Officer, Military Pay OIC and Detachment Commander, 101st Finance BN, Ft Campbell, KY; Detachment Commander, 208th Finance BN, Stuttgart, Germany; Detachment Commander, Task Force-266th FINCOM Fwd (Bosnia), Hungary; Battalion Executive Officer and Support Operations Officer, 101st Soldier Support BN, Ft Campbell, KY; Inspector, Department of the Army Inspector General and Executive Officer to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army, Financial Operations, Pentagon, VA; and Finance Policy/Operations Officer and Deputy Director, 266th Financial Management Center, Kaiserslautern, Germany.

Colonel Seelig’s military education includes Basic and Advanced Finance Officer Courses, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Command and General Staff College at the Western Hemisphere Institute of Security Cooperation, Ranger School, Airborne School, Air Assault School and certification as a Certified Defense Financial Manager. While a FAO COL Seelig attended the first year of the Argentine Army Superior War College (Escuela Superior de Guerra).

Colonel Seelig is also a graduate of the six-month Spanish Program at the Defense Language Institute, Monterrey, California.

His decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (1 Oak leaf Cluster), Meritorious Service Medal (3 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Commendation Medal (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Achievement Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), the NATO Medal and Multinational Force and Observers Medal.
