NAIC Adopts Valuation Manual |

The NAIC voted to enhance consumer protections today with the adoption of the Valuation Manual. The manual contains details of a principles-based approach to establishing insurance company reserves. The manual was adopted by a supermajority of the membership during the Fall National Meeting.
"As state regulators, we take insurance company solvency very seriously. It is vital that consumers get the benefit of the promises made by their insurers," said Kevin M. McCarty, NAIC President and Florida Insurance Commissioner. Full

SBS Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary |
The NAIC is pleased to announce the 10 year anniversary of State Based Systems (SBS).
Initiated in 2002 as a back-office software system for NAIC members, SBS was originally licensed by three jurisdictions: the District of Columbia, Delaware, and New Jersey. In the last decade, the number of licensed jurisdictions has grown to 26. “State Based Systems has grown to offer a broad set of software services used by our members, the insurance industry and insurance consumers,” said NAIC President and Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin M. Arkansas Becomes 26th Member to Choose SBS |

The NAIC announced that the Arkansas Insurance Department is the most recent jurisdiction to license State Based Systems (SBS), an NAIC owned and operated regulatory tool.
"Implementing SBS will greatly improve the level of service we offer our constituents," said Arkansas Insurance Commissioner Jay Bradford.
"We are pleased to welcome Arkansas as the 26th NAIC member of SBS," said NAIC President and Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin M. McCarty.

New York Regulator Earns NAIC's Highest Individual Honor |

The NAIC presented Joseph Fritsch of the New York State Department of Financial Services with the organization's most prestigious individual honor. Fritsch received the Robert Dineen Award during the Opening Session of the NAIC Fall National Meeting.

NAIC Names 2013 Consumer Liaison Representatives |

The NAIC recently named 29 consumer liaison representatives for 2013. The 20 funded and nine unfunded consumer representatives begin their terms Jan. 1, 2013. All 20 of the funded consumer representatives participated in the program in 2012.
“This program recognizes the importance of consumer viewpoints in our regulatory discussions,” said Jim Donelon, NAIC President-Elect and Louisiana Insurance Commissioner. “The consumer liaison representatives provide valuable insight that is instrumental in our goal to improve the insurance regulatory system.” Full
