  • August 01, 2011 - U.S. Marshal Genny May proudly announced that the United States Marshals Service, Eastern District of Louisiana, in conjunction with Crime Stoppers, the New Orleans Police Department, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, Kenner Police Department, Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Louisiana Probation and Parole conducted a Greater New Orleans area fugitive roundup entitled “Operation Safe Summer,” from Sunday, July 17th through Thursday, July 21st. The results of the roundup were 105 fugitives arrested and 143 outstanding warrants cleared.
  • June 03, 2011 - United States Marshal Genny May, Eastern District of Louisiana, proudly announced that on May 19th District Deputy Marshals and Task Force Officers participated in the 2011 Louisiana Law Enforcement Torch Run.  The group completed a six mile leg of the Torch Run in Jefferson Parish.
  • May 13, 2011 - Students from McDonough City Park Academy, who expressed careers in law or law enforcement, visited the Eastern District of Louisiana United States Marshals Office in New Orleans, LA.  The students spent the morning with District Deputies learning about a typical day in the life of a Deputy U.S. Marshal and attorneys who practice within the Federal courthouse. The students were welcomed to the District and given an overview of the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) by Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Steven Hartman.
  • May 04, 2011 - U.S. Marshal Genny May proudly announced that the Eastern District of Louisiana U.S. Marshals Service graduated 40 students who completed the Gang Resistance Education & Training (G.R.E.A.T.) course at Emily C. Watkins Elementary School in LaPlace, LA on May 4, 2011. The G.R.E.A.T. Program is a thirteen week law enforcement instructed curriculum. The program teaches students skills they can employ in their daily lives with the goal of the program being to reduce violence, prevent criminal activity, and minimize gang involvement, while developing and fostering a positive working relationship with law enforcement.
  • April 28, 2011 - U.S. Marshal Genny May proudly announced that the United States Marshals Service, Eastern District of Louisiana, participated in the Friends of Scott “Unforgettable Prom” on April 22, 2011 in New Orleans, LA. The prom was attended by approximately one hundred children who are being treated for cancer at the Children’s Hospital of New Orleans.
  • April 08, 2011 -  U.S. Marshal Genny May announced that a graduation ceremony was held on Friday, April 08, 2011, for 3rd and 5th grade students from the Arthur Ashe Charter School in uptown New Orleans. The students recently completed the Eastern District of Louisiana United States Marshals Service sponsored Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T) Program. The 3rd and 5th graders completed structured six and thirteen week curriculums, respectively.
  • March 6, 2011 - United States Marshal Genny May announced that on March 6, 2011, for the second consecutive year , elementary and middle school students from the United States Marshals’ Gang Resistance Education and Training (GREAT) and Badges for Baseball Programs in New Orleans were proudly featured in the 2011 Bacchus Mardi Gras Parade. Twenty outstanding students were selected to participate based on their accomplishments achieved during the GREAT lessons taught at Arthur Ashe Charter School and Emily C. Watkins Elementary School and the District’s Badges for Baseball Camp. .
  • March 04, 2011 - United States Marshal Genny May announced that on Thursday, March 3rd and Friday March 4th, 2011 Deputy United States Marshals (DUSMs) and Task Force Officers (TFOs) from the Eastern District of Louisiana in New Orleans teamed up with the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation to host a Badges for Baseball camp for over 200 local middle school students from four schools.
  • December 12, 2010 - Deputy U.S. Marshals (DUSMs) and Task Force Officers (TFOs) from the Eastern District of Louisiana in New Orleans partnered with the Dryades YMCA for the city’s rejuvenated Midnight Basketball program.  Midnight Basketball started in 1994 as a way to address the rising involvement of youth as victims and perpetrators of crime. The program takes teens and young adults from ages 17 to 24 off the streets from 9PM to 1AM, the hours when crime and drug abuse are most likely to occur.
  • October 25, 2010 - Deputy U.S. Marshals (DUSMs) and Task Force Officers (TFOs) from the Eastern District of Louisiana in New Orleans joined Amplify Resources, Agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Troopers from the Louisiana State Police (LSP) to kick off Red Ribbon Week with a festival held at Heritage Park in Slidell, Louisiana. Red Ribbon week began as a memorial for fallen DEA agent Enrique Camerena, who was killed in the line of duty while fighting the Mexican drug cartel in 1985 and is part of a national campaign that focuses on awareness and prevention of misuse or illegal use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.
  • September 29, 2010 - Members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, New Orleans office arrested six suspects who had escaped from the Lincoln County, MS Jail.  One of the suspects, Ahmad Butler, was facing a charge of Murder.  Justin Leake, Chad Michael Wallace, James Durr, Austin Hart, and Ahmad Butler were arrested in Harvey, Louisiana.  Bobby Hudson was arrested in Gretna, Louisiana.  All six were wanted by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office for Escape.
  • September 10, 2010 - On Saturday, August 28, 2010, five years after Hurricane Katrina devastated the New Orleans metro area and the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Deputy U.S. Marshals (DUSMs) from the Eastern District of Louisiana in New Orleans partnered with the Dryades YMCA/James M. Singleton Charter School to remember that fateful day and celebrate the city’s rebirth.
  • August 09, 2010 - On August 3, 2010, Deputy United States Marshals (DUSMs) from the Eastern District of Louisiana (E/LA) participated in the National Night Out Against Crime sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. District Deputies covered over eight local Night Out Against Crime events across the district, including events in New Orleans, Slidell, Algiers, and Amite.
  • May 28, 2010 - The week of July 12th – July 16th 2010, Deputy United States Marshals (DUSMs) from the Eastern District of Louisiana (E/LA) sponsored the final week of the six week Dryades YMCA Youth Summer Camp in New Orleans. During that week of camp, Deputies assisted the camp staff with the administration of the camp’s curriculum, facilitated activities, mentored, taught swimming lessons, and instructed campers on the Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.) summer curriculum.
  • May 14, 2010 - Students from Arthur Ashe Charter School visited the Eastern District of Louisiana’s United States Marshals Office in New Orleans. The students spent the morning with District Deputies learning what a typical day in the life of a Deputy U.S. Marshal was like.
  • May 10, 2010 - A graduation ceremony was held for over one-hundred 5th and 6th grade students from Martin Luther King Jr. Charter School in New Orlean’s Lower Ninth Ward. The students recently completed the Eastern District of Louisiana United States Marshals sponsored Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T) Program.
  • April 22, 2010 - Deputies form the Eastern District of Louisiana and the U.S. Marshal Special Operations Group (SOG) participated in Dryades YMCA’ s Law Enforcement Day. Dryades YMCA offers numerous, community outreach programs, after-school programs, a summer camp, day care and youth sports programs, most of which are provided free of charge. Academic services are also offered at the facility through the James M. Singleton Charter School.
  • April 14, 2010 - On April 07, 2010, the Eastern District of Louisiana hosted the South Central Regional District Chief’s Conference in New Orleans, LA.  The keynote speaker welcoming the group to the city was Mr. Tom Benson, owner of the Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints.
  • February 25, 2010 - On Tuesday, February 23, 2010, Acting U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Louisiana Steven Hartman accepted the Metropolitan Crime Commission’s “ 2010 Excellence in Law Enforcement Award ,” on behalf of the New Orleans Division of the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force (GCRFTF). The award recognized the GCRFTF’s efforts in the New Orleans area, resulting in more than 1,200 physical arrests and more than 1,800 outstanding warrants cleared.
  • February 15, 2010 - On February 14, 2010, students of the USMS/G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education and Training) Program  in New Orleans were proudly featured in the Bacchus Parade during Mardi Gras. Twenty outstanding students were selected to participate based on their accomplishments achieved during the G.R.E.A.T. lessons taught at the MLK Jr. Charter School.
  • July 13, 2009 - The Eastern District of Louisiana (E/LA) United States Marshals Service is reaching out to the Hollygrove Community through the Gang Resistance Education and Training Program (G.R.E.A.T.) by sponsoring a summer camp in conjunction with the Trinity Christian Community Center (TCC) from July 13-17, 2009, at 3908 Joliet St. New Orleans, LA.
  • April 24, 2009 - On Monday, April 27th, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. the United States Marshals Service Gang Resistance and Education Training (G.R.E.A.T.) program will hold a graduation for two sixth grade classes of forty seven students. The graduation will take place at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Charter School for Science and Technology, located at 1617 Caffin Avenue New Orleans, Louisiana. The attending students successfully completed a thirteen lesson G.R.E.A.T. curriculum instructed by Deputy U.S. Marshals assigned to the Eastern District of Louisiana.
  • January 26, 2009 - The Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force (GCRFTF) New Orleans office along with the New Orleans Police Department arrested Christopher Cyrus, 23, in New Orleans, LA. Cyrus was wanted by the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) for 3 counts of aggravated burglary, simple burglary of a residence, attempted aggravated rape and a parole violation warrant issued by the Louisiana Department of Probation and Parole.
  • January 15, 2009 - On January 14th, 2009, the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force (GCRFTF) New Orleans office arrested David Stann, 26, at his residence in New Orleans, LA. Stann is the suspect of a homicide that occurred in Detroit, Michigan. Stann has been booked into the Orleans Parish prison and is waiting extradition to Detroit, Michigan.
