    In celebration of President Obama’s Inauguration for a second term as President of the United States, Ambassador Susan Ziadeh hosted over 150 Qatari alumni from U.S. universities and exchange programs at her residence on Monday, January 21st. Ambassador Ziadeh welcomed guests and said: “We are honored to share this special tradition with our friends and colleagues from Qatar. Today, we mark 57 peaceful transitions of power, and a time for our leadership to acknowledge the voices and aspirations of the American people.” 

  • Dr. Rami Nashashibi of IMAN Interacts with Doha Communities (December 20, 2012)

    The U.S. Embassy hosted Dr. Rami Nashashibi, Executive Director of the Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN), a non-profit community organization that fights for social justice, delivers a range of direct services, and cultivates the arts in urban communities. Dr. Nashashibi visited FANAR, the Islamic Cultural Centre, the gala dinner of The Youth Company, the offices of the Qatari Girl Scouts, and other civil society organizations in Qatar. Dr. Nashashibi has worked with several leading scholars in the area of globalization, African American studies and urban sociology and has contributed chapters to edited volumes by Manning Marabel and Saskia Sassen. Rami has lectured across the United States, Europe and Middle East on a range of topics related to American Muslim identity, community activism and social justice issues and is a recipient of several prestigious community service and organizing awards. 

  • Public Affairs Section at the Doha International Book Fair (December 12, 2012)

    The Public Affairs Section of the Embassy is participating in the 23rd Annual Doha International Book Fair, opened by the Minister of Culture, Arts, and Heritage H.E. Abdulaziz Al Kuwari on December 12th at the Doha Exhibition Center. When His Excellency arrived at the U.S. Embassy booth, Ambassador Ziadeh presented him with American publications on North American falcons and official monuments. The U.S. Embassy booth is currently featuring Arabic translations of American authors, English Language teaching material, and student advising material including test preparation books. Visitors can also enjoy free publications such as brochures on American history, maps of the U.S., and information on Muslim life in America and various American authors. This year Embassy employees at the booth will be conducting a daily quiz and giving away a book as a prize. Visitors to the booth who like our Facebook page get an automatic 10% discount. The fair will be open for 10 days, concluding on December 22.  

  • Qatari Diplomatic Trainees Visit Embassy (December 11, 2012)

    Building on an innovative partnership launched by the U.S. Embassy in Doha with the Diplomatic Institute in 2012, a group of thirty Qatari diplomatic trainees visited the Embassy on Tuesday, December 11. In an open discussion, the U.S. Embassy’s officers shared experiences and insights from their daily work as diplomats overseas, and encouraged their Qatari colleagues to embrace exciting opportunities and challenges as they prepare for new assignments abroad.Welcoming the visiting Qatari diplomats at a reception, Ambassador Susan L. Ziadeh noted, “The mission of any diplomat is to build bridges of understanding and honorably serve his or her country abroad. The world needs effective diplomats now more than ever, and the men and women from the Diplomatic Institute represent the bright future of Qatari diplomacy. We are honored to welcome them to our Embassy today.”

    To mark Global Entrepreneurship Week this month, millions of people in 195 countries participated in more than 30,000 events worldwide to celebrate the power of individuals with ideas to drive economic growth. Here in Qatar, the U.S. Embassy celebrated Global Entrepreneurship Week with Qatar University (QU), where our Embassy staff joined with QU faculty and other experts to share insight and expertise with young QU business students. Events like these connect young people to their peers around the world and help them explore their potential as the next generation of business leaders.   MORE »

  • Embassy Doha hosts a professional development workshop for English teachers

    On Saturday, November 10, U.S. Embassy Doha hosted a professional development workshop for English teachers on : Increasing Student Engagement and Teacher Management in the Language Classroom. Twenty-five teachers from Qatar’s Independent schools attended the workshop, which was held at Qatar Foundation’s Awsaj Academy. Two American English teaching specialists – Meredith Hedrick and Melissa De Leeuw – delivered the workshop, which included interactive demonstrations and modeling of teaching strategies. Teachers came away from the workshop with new ideas of how to increase student engagement their classrooms by utilizing easy-to-implement classroom management techniques aimed at optimizing the amount of time students spend acquiring and practicing the target language in the classroom.
