The Sponsor Program pairs cadets with families who provide support, friendship and learning beyond the Academy environment as well as the comforts of a home away from home. The program is structured to give cadets exposure to the local area and, when possible, to a different view of the unique military community. This helps make cadets' integration into the military easier and more effective. Families can provide a relaxed learning environment that the Academy cannot. The time commitment and contact between cadet sponsor family and cadet are individual choices. Cadet sponsor materials are available in the navigation pane at left and instructions are below. - TO APPLY: Please select the Sponsor Family Application (Online) link in the left navigation. Fill out the application and submit.
Applications will be accepted from March 2012 to June 2012. The Sponsor Family training will take place in mid-June with a specific date to be determined. Cadets and families will be assigned in mid-July. The Meet and Greet will take place on July 19, 2012.
Existing sponsors:
Please make sure we have your current email address on file as most of our communication is done via email.
All current sponsors will automatically receive an application package for the incoming Class of 2016 in the spring of 2012. Following Coast Guard Academy policy, all sponsors, new and existing, may be asked to provide additional information needed to conduct a background security check.
Please note, all sponsors must submit a new and complete application for the Class of 2016. Also, keep in mind that there will be a mandatory family training session; a date for which will be determined in the near future.
If you do not wish to Sponsor a cadet from the Class of 2016, please email Lisa Jacobson so you may be removed from our distribution list.
