National Advisory Committee on Ergonomics

The National Advisory Committee on Ergonomics (NACE) advised the Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health on ergonomic guidelines, research, and outreach and assistance. The NACE charter ended in November 2004.

The Committee provided advice to the Assistant Secretary in the following areas:

  • Information related to various industry or task-specific guidelines;
  • identification of gaps in the existing research base related to applying ergonomic principles to the workplace;
  • current and projected research needs and efforts;
  • methods of providing outreach and assistance that will communicate the value of ergonomics to employers and employees; and
  • ways to increase communication among stakeholders on the issue of ergonomics.

The Committee reported periodically to the Assistant Secretary on its findings and recommendations. View the complete list of Committee recommendations. Where Committee recommendations involved research efforts, the Assistant Secretary forwarded such recommendations to NIOSH.
