Portsmouth Site Feeds Bacteria to Render Hazardous Groundwater Waste Harmless
PIKETON, Ohio – The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Environmental Management’s Portsmouth site is using an environmentally
friendly approach to reduce hazardous waste in a groundwater plume.

EM has used its American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) funds to touch tens
of thousands of citizens and help cleanup the environment. With active cleanup efforts
in over 20 States, ‘shovel-ready’ jobs are available coast-to-coast. To date, 57
job fairs have been held. A recent job fair in Augusta, Georgia drew 13,500 attendees
for available ARRA related positions at the Savannah River Site (SRS).
