Invasive Animals
Database: Cactus
Moth Detection and Monitoring Network (CMDMN)
Host: Mississippi State
University, Geosystems Research Institute.
Scope: Partnership of of various
groups to monitor the distribution of the cactus
moth. Volunteer monitors from public and private
land management units, garden clubs and Master Gardeners
monitor the spread of the moth, cactus populations
and report observations. The data will be used to
support modeling efforts to better predict likely
locations for new pricklypear cactus and cactus moth,
helping guide surveys. This is the first step of
an Early Detection and Rapid Response (EDRR) approach.
Database: Global
Island Invasive Vertebrate Eradication Database
Host: Island Conservation
Scope: Islands are the epicenter
of the current global extinction crisis and invasive
vertebrates are the leading cause of extinction on
islands. Removing invasive vertebrates from islands
is a well established tool to protect island ecosystems
and prevent extinctions. This database compiles
all of the historical and current eradications on
islands and includes information on the island, methods
used in the eradication and contacts to people knowledgeable
about the eradication.
Database: Feral.org.au
Host: Australian Government
Bureau of Rural Sciences; Pest Animal Control Cooperative
Research Centre; University of Canberra
Scope: Contains bibliographic
database of books, reports, and articles on invasive
animals in Australia. Provides abstracts and links
to full text. Also contains species profiles.
Database: Invasive Mammals Bibliography
Host: Massey University and University of Waikato
Scope: Provides scientific information on the world's invasive mammals. Contains bibliographic databases of published research, including some abstracts, on five such species of mammal: horses (Equus caballus), possums (Trichosurus vulpecula), stoats, short-tailed weasels or ermines (Mustela erminea), common or least weasels (Mustela nivalis), long-tailed weasels (Mustela frenata).
Database: North American Non-Indigenous Arthropod Database (NANIAD)
Host: U.S. Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Plant Protection and Quarantine, Center for Plant Health Science and Technology
Scope: The NANIAD presently contains the data captured from diverse resources for 2,273 species of non-indigenous insects and arachnids on: classification; natural and immigrant distribution; economic and environmental impacts; disease vectors; establishment status; entry point and date; pathways; habitat; hosts; life history; and literature citations.
Database: Releases of Beneficial Organisms in the United States and Territories (ROBO)
Host: U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Biological Control Documentation Center
Scope: Terrestrial invertebrates in the United States, including biological control agents and pollinators.
Database: Slow the Spread Gypsy Moth Database
Host: Virginia Tech, Department of Entomology
Scope: The Slow the Spread (STS) database is one component of the STS project, which focuses on reducing the rate of spread of gypsy moth spread in the U.S. through the detection and eradication/suppression of isolated colonies to prevent full-scale infestation. Among the tools featured are data summaries by state, survey maps, and a decision-support system. |
