Scope: The present database targets nonindigeneous aquatic species that are not considered to have been native to any part of the Great Lakes basin. GLANSIS functions as a Great Lakes specific node of the USGS NAS national database.
Database: National Ballast Information Clearinghouse (NBIC)
Host: Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC), joint program with U.S. Coast Guard
Scope: The clearinghouse will function as a central source of information on ballast water and ballast-mediated invasion to include: 1) Spatial and temporal patterns of ballast water delivery and management; 2) Patterns and rates of marine and estuarine invasions; 3) Directory of ongoing and past research on ballast water and ballast-mediated invasions; 4) General information on a broad range of topics relevant to this issue.
Database: National Exotic Marine and Estuarine Species Information System (NEMESIS)
Host: Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC)
Scope: NEMESIS is a resource for information on non-native, or exotic, species that occur in coastal marine waters of the United States. NEMESIS provides summaries for approximately 500 non-native coastal species including when, where and how these species invaded and key information on their biology and ecology. NEMESIS provides access to data on non-native species in the Chesapeake Bay.
Database: NISbase - The International Nonindigenous Species Database Network
Host: Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC)
Scope: NISbase is a new distributed database portal developed by SERC to provide simultaneous search access to multiple invasive species databases.
Database: Nonindigenous
Aquatic Species (NAS) Database
Host: DOI, USGS,
Southeast Ecological Science Center
Scope: This site has been established as a central
repository for accurate and spatially referenced biogeographic accounts
of nonindigenous aquatic species. Provided are scientific reports,
online/realtime queries, spatial data sets, regional contact lists,
and general information. The geographical coverage is the United
States.

Aquatic Plants
Database: Aquatic
Plant Information System Online (APIS)
Host: U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers, Engineer Research and Development Center, Environmental
Laboratory
Scope: Information contained in the Aquatic Plant
Information System Online Version is taken directly from the Aquatic
Plant Information System (APIS) CD (which is free while supplies
last).
Database: Aquatic
Plant Information Retrieval System (APIRS)
Host: University of Florida, Center for Aquatic and
Invasive Plants with significant support from Bureau of Invasive Plant
Management, Florida Department of Environmental Protection Aquatic
Plant Control Research Program, U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers
Scope: This resource is devoted to freshwater aquatic
and wetland plants, as well as terrestrial and aquatic invasive plants.
The database includes annotated citations for more than 60,000 research
articles, books and reports about plant ecology, physiology, utilization
and control. Items in many languages dating back to the 18th century
are in this inclusive database.
Database: Atlas
of Florida Vascular Plants
Host: University of South
Florida, Institute for Systematic Botany
Scope: The Atlas of Florida
Vascular Plants is a joint effort by the Institute
for Systematic Botany, the University of South Florida
and the Florida Center for Community Design + Research
to provide users with a comprehensive searchable database
of vascular plants in the State of Florida. Data includes
county by county distribution documented by herbarium
specimens and complete nomenclature for all Florida
taxa.
Database: Biota
of North America Program (BONAP)
Host: North Carolina Botanical
Garden; University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill
Scope: The program's goal is to develop a unified
digital system for assessing the North American biota through the maintenance
of the taxonomic, nomenclatural, and biogeographic data for all members
of the biota. The BONAP
database (hosted by USDA, APHIS)
now includes data for all vascular plants and vertebrate species (native,
naturalized, and adventive) of the United States and Canada. In Jan
2010, BONAP released it's North
American Plant Atlas; county-level atlas for continguous 48
states.

Plant Atlas of the United States
Host: University
of Georgia, Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem
Health (collaborative project with the Plant Conservation Alliance's Alien Plant
Working Group)
Scope: Database of information about plants that
invade natural areas in the U.S. (including
Hawaii). It is intended as an informational and educational tool and
is compiled from a wide variety of sources including published and
unpublished lists, reports, surveys, and personal observations from
experts in the field. Sources include the National Park Service, other
federal, state and local agencies, Exotic Pest Plant Councils, Invasive
Species Councils and related organizations, The Nature Conservancy,
and others. See more information About

Database: Atlas of Exotic Species in the Mediterranean Sea
Host: International Commission for the Scientific Exploration of the Mediterranean Sea (CIESM)

Scope: The FAO database on introductions of aquatic species was initiated by R. Welcomme in the early 1980's. It considered primarily only freshwater species of fish and formed the basis for the 1988 FAO Fisheries Technical Paper no. 294. The database has been expanded to include additional taxa, such as molluscs and crustaceans, and marine species. In the mid 1990's a questionnaire was sent to national experts to gather additional information on introductions and transfers of aquatic species in their countries. The database, which contains now about 3,150 records, can be queried through the Search Form.
