 Brigadier General Stapp is the Deputy Director for Requirements (DDR), Joint Staff J-8, the Pentagon, Washington, D.C. As the DDR, he is responsible to the Director J8 for overseeing the requirements determination process. Brigadier General Stapp received his commission in 1986 as a distinguished graduate of Officer Training School, Lackland AFB, TX. He served as the lead flight test engineer for the Joint Service V-22 Osprey and conducted over 250 hours of flight test on two prototype V-22s. He also served as an instructor at the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School. Brigadier General Stapp’s command tours include the 84th Combat Sustainment Wing and 508th Aerospace sustainment Wing, the 36th Electronic Warfare Squadron, Air Combat Command and the Special Technology Group, National Reconnaissance Office. Brigadier General Stapp’s also fulfilled a staff assignment as the Chief of Special Programs, Directorate for Force Structure, Resources, and Assessment Joint Staff/J-8. Prior to his current assignment, Brigadier General Richard S. Stapp was Director, Aerospace Sustainment Directorate, Ogden Air Logistics Center, Hill Air Force Base, Utah. The Aerospace Sustainment Directorate (ASD) is responsible for the storage and movement of all Air Force munitions and manages a number of weapons systems including the A-10 Thunderbolt II, F/Q-4 Phantom II, F-16 Fighting Falcon, F-22 Raptor, T-37 Tweet, and T-38 Talon. ASD manages multiple command, control, communications and intelligence (C3I) and weather systems.
