The Work We Do
NAVAIR’s Fleet Readiness Center Southwest at North Island is located in the Navy’s super port of San Diego. We utilize state-of-the-art management systems and best business practices to provide comprehensive, quality support to Sailors and Marines through the overhaul, repair and modification of Navy and Marine Corps front line aircraft and components. It’s the lead facility nationwide performing overhaul, repair and modification of the F/A-18 Hornet and Super Hornet. North Island initiated a methodology that replaces the center section of the aircraft to enhance and extend its useful life with fleet units, increasing readiness while avoiding substantial replacement costs. We partner with industry and other government agencies by supporting naval aeronautical and related technology systems with which the operating forces can train, fight and win. Our capability to produce intricate metal and composite components ensures that the entire Navy is capable of meeting emergency requirements.
