Couples HIV Counseling and Testing Intervention and Training Curriculum
Through the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has collaborated with the Rwanda Zambia HIV Research Group (RZHRG), the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), and other national and international partners to develop the Couples HIV Counseling and Testing (CHCT) Intervention and Training Curriculum. The curriculum was developed in response to increased demand from field partners for interventions and training that would help them address the complex issues related to HIV counseling and testing with couples, who currently constitute the largest risk group in Africa for HIV transmission. Training Materials
The CHCT Curriculum was field tested in South Africa, Kenya, and Botswana, and has been used in CDC-led trainings in Botswana, Malawi, Ethiopia, Namibia and Nigeria. It is intended for community HIV testing and counseling providers, but may be adapted for persons providing HTC in health facility settings. It is recommended that all partners using this curriculum adapt the materials to include the policies, guidelines and specific context of their country setting.
