Protecting the Environment
We must protect our environment for future generations by preserving our pristine lands and other natural resources. I have repeatedly opposed anti-environmental proposals that would dangerously weaken basic clean air and clean water laws. I have opposed efforts to undermine the authority of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to regulate toxic pollutants like mercury and to set clean air standards based solely on science. I opposed the Republicans’ FY2011 Continuing Resolution, which negatively affects air, water, and environmental quality.
I have supported efforts to protect America's national treasures – like the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, the Tongass National Forest, and Utah's Red Rock Wilderness – for future generations. I have been recognized by groups like the Sierra Club, the League of Conservation Voters, and Defenders of Wildlife for these efforts and for my support of full enforcement of the Endangered Species Act, which protects vulnerable species from extinction.
