Comparing Summary File 1 with Census 2000

2010 Census Same-Sex Household Statistics
When comparing Summary File 1 statistics on same-sex unmarried partners to other estimates, users should be careful. We noticed that a small number of errors may have occurred when the data were captured for the questions about relationship to householder or gender. Due to the small population of same-sex married couples, which are included in the same-sex unmarried partners statistics in Summary File 1, these data capture errors may have affected the overall results. The Census Bureau will issue a report later this year showing both the tabulated counts and alternative estimates accounting for these errors in the same-sex married couple and unmarried partner populations.
In addition, users should not compare the counts in Summary File 1 to estimates of same sex couples from the 2009 American Community Survey due to differences in data collection methods.
