Type of contract: Multiple award, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ)
Period of performance: May 2007 to May 2012
Four service types provide flexibility
Agencies can order supporting equipment along with services.
Type I: Transport Services. All providers offer mobile satellite services, fixed satellite services, or both.
Type II: Application Services. All providers offer at least one application service, including:
- Distance learning
- Emergency response or continuity of operations planning
- Telemedicine
- Streaming video
- Broadcast satellite service
Type III: Design, Engineering, and Maintenance Services includes support for the services delivered under Types I and II, including:
- Satellite system engineering design
- Configuration
- Installation
- Implementation
- Training
- Ongoing maintenance
- Operational support
Type IV: Professional Support Services (small business only) includes:
- Abstract or concept studies and analysis
- Strategic and preliminary planning
- Requirements definition and analysis
- Evaluation of alternative technical approaches
- Modeling and simulation
- Enterprise architecture design
- Cost/cost-performance trade-off analysis
- Feasibility analysis
- Regulatory compliance support
- System engineering
- Independent verification and validation
- Information assurance certification and accreditation

The SATCOM-II acquisition includes agreements to ensure high quality service is delivered throughout the terms of the contracts.
