Basic Sciences Division
The Basic Sciences Division comprises five departments: biology, chemistry, computer sciences, mathematical sciences and physics.
BIOLOGY
The Biology Department offers more than 20 courses, offering programs of study in cellular and molecular biology, environmental and oganismal biology and the health professions. The Biology Department strives to enhance student learning through high academic standards, a welcoming but challenging classroom environment and extensive cadet-professor education. CHEMISTRY
The Chemistry Department offers three accredited tracks for chemistry majors. A major in chemistry prepares cadets for research and development or graduate school. A biochemistry major is designed for cadets interested in biochemistry, molecular biology and medicine. Material chemistry is an interdisciplinary program to help cadets understand modern materials such as composites, ceramics, polymers, alloys, semiconductors and superconductors. Phone: 719-333-2960 Web: Department of Chemistry
COMPUTER SCIENCE
The Computer Science Department offers more than 30 courses toward majors in computer science, information assurance, and computer engineering, which is offered jointly by the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science departments. Phone: 719-333-4118 Web: Department of Computer Science
MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES
The Mathematical Sciences Department offers courses designed to help mathematics majors logically analyze a problem, determine the tools required to formulate a solution, develop and execute the solution, and effectively communicate the process and conclusions of that solution. Air Force careers available to mathematics majors include space systems analyst, scientific analyst and intelligence applications officer. Phone: 719-333-4470 Web: Department of Mathematical Sciences
PHYSICS
The Physics Department offers cadets opportunities to conduct hands-on research with rockets, satellites and lasers. Graduates go on to serve the Air Force as pilots, flight test engineers, acquisition managers, engineers, nuclear research officers and physicists. Phone: 719-333-3510 Web: Department of Physics
