1/31/2012 - JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas (AFNS) -- Applications for voluntary early retirement authority and/or voluntary separation incentive pay consideration must be submitted this week at bases that are still accepting applications, Air Force officials said.

Early retirement and separation incentives are part of ongoing measures used to help maintain civilian funding at fiscal year 2010 levels, officials said.

Servicing civilian personnel sections sent surveys to eligible civilians starting Jan. 9. Applicants approved for VERA or VSIP this round will be notified mid-February, and will be required to separate from civil service by April 30.

Every base manages its own program, officials explained, so Airmen should first contact their local civilian personnel section for more information.

Could it be that this SSgt is upset because he will have to get out after 15 years of service in the USAF for not making TSgt. Could this be where his displace aggression is coming from We won't miss you.

A few nice realistic commenmts so far then there's the comment from SSgt. You may have worked with one or two Federal Civilians of what you described but as Bo mnentions it's not the norm. The service has Dead Weight at all levels. Chances are your work ethic has been called into questiion. By the tone of your comments you probably need to head back home to mom and dad to learn how to respect others.

Ah ha SSgt USAF is not Active Duty After months of bashing GS we finally learn something about him. He claims to be a disabled vet. But why the anger Did he not qualify for a GS job and is angry Did he not get VA at the rate he thought he should Was he disabled in combat or just injured and out on an MEB. Please tell us prior SSgt USAF. Why the slander and inflamatory remarks Of course GS is made up of prior AD We want that experience to continue to work for us. You are full of sour grapes and need to work through your real issues. If you don't like the system write your Congressman but quit slandering us all because you are way out of line

To 'SSgt USAF' please change your name to Paul Bunyan because you sound like you have an axe to grind. Your comments have little to nothing to do with this article. Realize you are calling out valued team members who have devoted 20, 30 and, in some cases, 50 plus years defending and supporting this nation. Something tells me that your comments were meant to draw the ire of many so that you can sit back and admire the firestorm you caused. Very childish. I hope you're not in a leadership position in my AF.

Bitter much? Look at the big picture, SSgt. If someone CHOOSES to leave then it's less personnel that are forcibly removed during any future workforce reductions. And while there are civilians that don't earn every dollar of their salary those types are everywhere including the active military force. Most civilians are hard working folks earning a living like the majority of us. In fact I'm guessing that it's cheaper to have a civilian fill a position than a military member since not as many allowances have to be paid out. BTW I guess I'm a 10 percenter. I'm neither retired military nor do I collect disability from the VA. I'm just a guy who decided the Active AF was not the path I wanted but still wanted to serve my country the best I could. So here I am making somewhat less than I could on the outside because I believe in what our nation and Air Force stand for. And no it's not BS. I worked on the outside for a while and willing took a 15K per year PAY CUT.

Come and get it civilians. You know you want to suck the government dry of money like you allready are. Don't give me that I mak less BS. 90 percent of DOD civilians are retired military or disabled vets like me. You get a nice check and medical every month then on top of that a GS or WS pay check. Most of you are commiting fraud anyway doing a job you were unfit by military to do. But hey you can do it now and get disability for it. quick faking your injuries and man up to what you are doing to the US.
