This September, the French Interior Ministry will launch a program aimed at cracking down on crime in 15 of the most crime-stricken departments in France. The effort, dubbed Priority Security Zones (PSZ), was announced only days before riots broke out in one of the targeted areas. The program, modeled after a crime-fighting strategy used in the U.S. in the 1990s, has the potential to reduce crime in France’s most afflicted cities.
