The Byron Rogers Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse is a 620,000 square foot structure housing 11 federal agencies. Designed by the architectural firm of Fisher & Davis and James Sudler Associates, it was constructed in 1964 by Autur Yenneri Company. Today it is the cornerstone of the Denver Federal District complementing the new Customs House and the Byron White U.S. Courthouse.
This building is undergoing a modernization project that will not only result in a modern, highly-efficient workspace for the federal agencies housed there, but will also help revitalize the eastern edge of the downtown central business district at 20th & Stout Streets. The building is expected to attain Silver Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Certification in New Construction thanks to upgrades including the replacement of all existing exterior windows, doors, and partitions; the HVAC system; fire protection system; electrical distribution system; and LED lighting. This project will also be implementing a unique chilled beam cooling system that uses chilled water fed through beams throughout the building. The new U.S. Courthouse Annex is a 10-story facility that will provide for the expanding workload demands of the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado. Located between 19th and 20th Streets and Champa and Curtis Streets, this structure is sensitive to the architectural heritage of Denver - in particular the federal district. The Byron Rogers Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse was recognized with a Gold Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Certification for Existing buildings (EB v1) in September 2006. As a demonstration of GSA's commitment to safeguarding the environment, this courthouse is a model of sustainable, or environmentally friendly, design.
