China
About
USAID's Regional Development Mission for Asia (RDMA), in Bangkok, supports programs in China across several sectors.
USAID is helping China promote clean energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It is working with China to improve environmental law and environmental governance. Activities also will strengthen environmental due diligence among national agencies and the private sector and reduce China's environmental footprint.
USAID assists China's efforts to develop a legal system for fair, participatory and transparent governance; as well as its efforts to introduce reforms within the justice system. RDMA's programs preserve cultural traditions and promote sustainable development and environmental conservation among ethnic Tibetans.
RDMA is working to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and multi-drug resistant tuberculosis and is strengthening surveillance for avian influenza. In addition, USAID sent personnel and donated specialized search, rescue and recovery equipment following the 2008 Sichuan province earthquake.
