Foggo visited the ship to thank the crew for their work during Operation Unified Protector, the NATO led operation enforcing United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1970 and 1973 in order to protect Libyan civilians. Mesa Verde is a part of the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group, which relieved the Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group on April 27, 2011, in support of Operation Odyssey Dawn, later becoming Operation Unified Protector.
