Section 107. Study of Preventable Injuries and Deaths in Minority Children Related to Consumer Products

Brief Summary

This section of the new legislation requires the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to perform a study to assess disparities in the risks and incidence of preventable injuries and deaths among certain racial minority children. The study will examine the racial disparities of the rates of preventable injuries and deaths for suffocation, poisonings, and drownings, including those associated with cribs, mattresses and bedding, swimming pools and spas, and toys and other children’s products. The Comptroller General will consult with the Commission as necessary in performing this study. The Comptroller General will report the findings no later than one year after passage of the Act. The report will contain findings on the incidence of preventable risk of injuries and deaths and recommendations for minimizing such risks; recommendations for public outreach, awareness, and prevention campaigns to racial minority populations; and recommendations for educational initiatives that could reduce statistical disparities.
