Students attending Marine Corps Base Quantico Middle/High School won’t just be receiving new schedules and classes on Aug. 22. Michael A. Johnson will be walking through the halls as the new principal when they arrive.

Johnson taught and served as an assistant principal at three Florida high schools, where he won Teacher of the Year. He is bringing both his knowledge of the education system and a military background of 14 years both as an enlisted and as an officer in the United States Army.

Michael Gould, the district superintendent, said he was a great match for the school because of his background as a military service member and instructional leader. He will bring his proven success in engaging parents and the community in the education process, Gould said.

The Quantico was Johnson’s first choice while he was applying for a position within the Department of Defense’s education system.
